Effects Of Exercise Therapy On Igf-1 Level And Body Tissue Health In Patients With Osteosarcopenia

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the effects of exercise therapy on serum IGF-1 levels and body tissue health in patients with osteosarcopenia. METHODS: Fifty patients diagnosed with muscular osteosarcopenia, with an age range of 45 to 65 years, were selected. The experiment was randomized into two groups: an exercise group and a control group. The exercise group underwent a 24-week systematic exercise intervention, including resistance training and plyometrics, while the control group maintained the same daily lifestyle. Blood samples were collected from the patients before the start of the experiment, at 6 and 12 weeks of its conduct, and at the end of the experiment, and changes in serum IGF-1 levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique. Also, bone density was assessed using DXA scanning, and muscle mass and function were assessed by muscle bioelectrical impedance measurement and muscle strength testing. RESULTS: Serum IGF-1 level increased significantly (p < 0.01) in patients in the exercise therapy group. Before the experiment, serum IGF-1 was 120 ± 5 ng/mL; after the experiment, it rose to 140 ± 4 ng/mL. In addition, the exercise treatment group showed improved bone density, muscle mass and strength, with statistically significant differences compared with the control group (p < 0.05). Before the experiment, the mean value of bone density was 0.85 ± 0.02 g/cm2, and muscle strength averaged 25 ± 2 kg; after the experiment, the mean value increased to 0.88 ± 0.015 g/cm2, muscle strength rose to 28 ± 1.5 kg. While the changes in serum IGF-1 level, bone density and muscle strength in the control group were not significant. This suggests that exercise therapy can significantly increase serum IGF-1 levels in patients with muscular osteoporosis and have a significant positive effect on their bone and muscle health. CONCLUSION: The results of this study confirm the positive effects of exercise therapy on serum IGF-1 levels and body tissue health in patients with osteosarcopenia. Regular and systematic exercise interventions can significantly elevate patients' IGF-1 levels, improve bone density, and enhance muscle mass and strength.
