The Effects Of Live Aerobic Group Course Online On Exercise Performance In Healthy Adults

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, online live broadcasts are used as alternative instruction or teaching modes for sports coaches. OBJECTIVE: To improve the effects of online live dynamic aerobic group classes on physical fitness, functional movement screen (FMS), dynamic balance, and exercise performance in healthy adults. METHODS: A total of 20 healthy adults with exposure to aerobic group classes were recruited and assigned to two groups: the step-move aerobic group (n = 10, age:43.40 ± 8.00) and the kickboxing aerobic group (n = 10, age:43.70 ± 9.74). The course through live online streaming, 2 times a week, 60 minutes each time, for a total of 8 weeks. Before and after the exercise intervention, body composition, physical fitness assessment, FMS, Y balance test, and multi-stage progression running on the treadmill were performed (blood sampling to lactate value: after running for quiet value, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th minutes a total of 6 blood collections). RESULTS: Retention rate: 100%, adherence: 98.8%, and safety: no unexpected or adverse events occurred after eight weeks of intervention. In addition, compared to the pretest, the step-move aerobic group showed significant improvements in the three-minute step test (p = 0.04, Cohen’s d = 0.31) and push-ups (p = 0.001, Cohen’s d = 1.38), Sit-up test (p = 0.001, Cohen’s d = 1.14), sit and reach test (p = 0.005, Cohen’s d = 0.25), FMS total scores (p = 0.019, Cohen’s d = 1.80), Y balance test (p = 0.001, Cohen’s d = 0.95), multi-stage progression running (p < 0.001), Cohen’s d = 0.76), the average maximum lactate value after testing: 7.37 mmol/l. The kickboxing aerobic group achieved significant improvements: push-ups (p = 0.006, Cohen’s d = 1.6), FMS total scores (p < 0.001, Cohen’s d = 1.51), Y balance test (p = 0.001, Cohen’s d = 1.19), multi-stage progression running (p < 0.001, Cohen’s d = 0.58), post-test average maximum lactate value: 7.54 mmol/l. There was no statistical difference in the value of the change amount the between two groups. CONCLUSIONS: The 8-week live online step-move aerobic and boxing aerobic courses are highly feasible and can help improve physical fitness, functional movements, dynamic balance, and athletic performance. The results can be used as a reference for online group coaching for sports-related professionals in the future. Taiwan Health Physical Fitness Association, JV Fitness
