On Type 2 Diabetic Patients's Health Promotion Under The Integrated Theory Of Health Behavior Change
OBJECTIVE: This thesis aims to investigate the impact of comprehensive management and control measures based on the Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change (ITHBC) on the physical activity of community type 2 diabetes patients, and to observe the effects on their life quality, constitution and health, metabolism, disease control, etc. METHODS: Thirty-two eligible type 2 diabetic patients recruited from the hospital were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group, who were managed according to diabetes chronic disease management in national health service projects. ITHBC-based comprehensive control measures were implemented in the experimental group, and patients were intervened from personalized assessment, skill guidance, goal setting, and social support. Both groups were tested with physical activity questionnaires, life quality, constitution, and health, metabolism before and after intervention. I counted the number of steps and frequency of exercise after 12 weeks of intervention, and analyzed it with independent sample t-test, paired sample t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA. RESULTS: 1.The total physical activity of the experimental group significantly varied before and after intervention (P ≤ 0.01), and the noticeable differences between the groups also emerged(P ≤ 0.01).2.Life quality indicators: After 12 weeks, the physiological function, dietary control, and disease control of the experimental group had remarkable differences (P < 0.05).3.Constitution and health indicators: After 12 weeks, pronounced differences in the sit-and-reach test, and vital capacity of the experimental group occurred (P ≤ 0.01); so did the grip strength (P < 0.05).4.Metabolism indicators: After 12 weeks, obvious differences in the experimental group’s body weight, waist circumference, and hip circumference appeared (P < 0.05), so did the blood pressure (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The comprehensive control measures for community type 2 diabetes based on the ITHBC can effectively improve the patients’ physical activity level, enhance their exercise frequency, dramatically boost their life quality and health level. While no significant impact on glucose and lipid metabolism is shown.
