Association Between Physical Fitness Test Indexes Among Chinese College Students.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the associations between different varieties of physical fitness tests. METHODS: Physical fitness of 2322 participants (1566 males & 756 females; aged 18.47 ± 0.8, Height = 171.2 ± 8.0 cm, Weight = 63.4 ± 12.3 kg) from a Chinese university were assessed using a set of physical fitness tests, including vital capacity (VC), Sit and Reach, standing long jump (SLJ), and 50-M dash for participants. RESULTS: There is significant difference between the height(P = 0.00) and weight (P = 0.00) of the college students with different sex while there is no significant difference between the participants’ age between male and female(P = 0.97). The correlation between vital capacity and BMI, standing long jump, 50-M, Sit and Reach are 0.389(p < 0.01), 0.565(p < 0.01), 0.536(p < 0.01) and -0.128(p < 0.01) respectively; The physical fitness test on standing long jump was moderately positively related to vita capacity (0.565, p < 0.01) and strongly negatively related to 50 M (-0.806, p < 0.01) and Sit and Reach (-0.144, p < 0.01). In addition, Sit and Reach is weakly positively related to 50-M test (0.166, p < 0.01). The summary of results of spearman correlation test results is shown in Table 1. Table 1. The results of determination of Pearson correlation coefficient between different varieties of physical fitness test among Chinese college students. - BMI Vital capacity 50-M Standing long jump Sit And Reach BMI 1.000 .389** 0.010 0.007 -0.031 Vital capacity .389** 1.000 -.536** .565** -.128** 50-M 0.010 -.536** 1.000 -.806** .166** Standing long jump 0.007 .565** -.806** 1.000 -.144** Sit And Reach -0.031 -.128** .166** -.144** 1.000 *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01 CONCLUSION: Low correlations are commonly observed between different varieties of physical fitness test categories, with exception Standing log jump test strongly negatively correlated with 50-M test and moderately positively correlated to vital capacity.
