Effect Of High Intensity Interval And Resistance Training On Plexin D1 Expression And Lipid Profile In Aged Rats
: The elderly usually face various diseases that affect their living condition. Cardiovascular diseases, blood clots, and strokes are the common and recurring diseases among this population. Plexin D1 belongs to the plexins family and can act as a tumor promoter and a tumor suppressor. Also, mutations in plexin D1 can lead to serious cardiovascular diseases. Plexin D1 can act as an activating protein and modulate integrin-mediated cell adhesion, cytoskeleton dynamics, and cell migration. These effects may play a regulatory role in the development of the cardiovascular system and disease. Also, there is a relationship between HDL and LDL levels and their protein content with the risk of cardiovascular diseases. PURPOSE: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of eight weeks of high-intensity interval training and resistance training on the expression of plexin D1 receptor and lipid profile in aged male rats with a high-fat diet. METHODS: 21 elderly male Wistar rats with age (20-22 months) and weight (250 ± 20) were selected by random sampling, and were divided into three groups; obese-non active rats, resistance training group, and interval training group (n = 7). HIIT protocol included 5-8 steps of 2-minute activity with an intensity equivalent to 50% of VO2 max. Resistance training protocol consists of five sessions per week on the ladder, and the rats will have to perform ten repetitions with the target weight. Blood samplings were gathered 48 hours after the last training session. Data analysis was performed using ANOVA and the TUKEY test. RESULTS: The ANOVA results showed that there is a significant reduction in Plexin D1 (F = 7.24, p = 0.005), and lipid profile (F = 5.71, p = 0.012) among groups. TUKEY test also confirmed that the decline in PlexinD1 (p (c, HIIT) = 0.022, p (c, RT) = 0.006) and lipid profile (p (c, HIIT) = 0.056, p (c, RT) = 0.012) was significantly between the obese-non active group and training groups. Moreover, the Pearson correlation coefficient test showed that there is a positive and strong relationship between PlexinD1 and lipid profile (HDL = (r = 0.456, p = 0.525), LDL = (r = 0.488, p = 0.552), TC = (0.356, p = 0.488), and TG = (0.376, p = 0.589)). CONCLUSION: It seems that periodic and regular training can decrease the serum levels of plexin D1 and lipid profile in obese middle-aged rats.
