Tracking Research On Endurance Running Performance Of Chinese College Students Since 2000

PURPOSE: To track and compare the changes in men's 3000m and women's 1500m endurance running performance of Chinese college students since 2000. METHODS: From 2000 to 2022, more than 10,000 male and female college students from all over China participated in endurance running at Tsinghua University each year, with a total of 247,989 samples (Male: 173,341; Female: 74,648) tested during the 23 years. The test was manually timed and conducted on a 400-metre track playground. SPSS 26.0 was used for data analysis. RESULTS: 1. Characteristics of endurance running test scores over years The change curve of college students' endurance running performance from 2000 to 2022 shows that male students had the best endurance running performance in 2003, and female students had the best endurance running performance and the shortest time in 2000 and 2002. After 2004, the performance of both male and female students showed a decreasing trend. Overall, endurance running performance trended downward from 2000 to 2009. From 2010 to 2019, the performance showed a fluctuating trend of first rebounding and then declining. And the performance showed a precipitous decline after 2019.2.Comparison of endurance running change characteristics of college students in different stages The students' endurance running performance from 2000 to 2022 was divided into 3 time periods for one-way ANOVA. The comparison found that the performance of both male and female students in the first 10 years was significantly better than that of other stages (P<0.01), and the endurance running performance was the worst in the last 3 years (P<0.01). Men's 3000m running performance in the last 3 years declined by 41 seconds from 890s compared with that of the first stage 849s, and women's 1500m running performance declined by 15 seconds from 463s to 482s. CONCLUSIONS: From 2000 to 2022, the average value of Chinese college men's 3000m running performance was 14'23”, and the average value of women's 1500m running performance was 7'48”, which are at the general international level. The endurance quality of college students was more excellent about 20 years ago, and then showed a decreasing trend; the endurance quality of college students in the last 3 years may have been affected by COVID-2019 and other factors, and the endurance running performance declined precipitously.
