Investigating learner’s perceptions of Google Translate and online dictionaries in translation from English, French, Korean, and Japanese to Vietnamese

Machine translation has flourished in recent years and has been introduced as an effective tool for language learning. This study explores the perceptions of Google Translate (GT) and online dictionary (OD) among university students majoring in English, French, Korean, and Japanese in their translations into Vietnamese. The results demonstrate that although GT has significantly supported students’ translations, they still encounter numerous difficulties and are less satisfied with their translations. Meanwhile, the OD groups were more satisfied with their translations than the GT groups. This study emphasizes the role of translation tools in supporting students’ translation.
