Potential Impacts of Motor Structure on Power Transfer Coils in Wireless Motors

Wireless motor, which integrates the wireless power transfer technology and motor drive system together, is of great significance for broadening the application fields of motors. In a compact wireless motor design, the power transfer coils will be placed close to the motor stator, which may affect the wireless power transfer process. This paper presents a study of the potential impact of the motor structure on the power transfer coils in wireless motors. The inductance, resistance, coupling coefficient and efficiency of the transmitting coil and receiving coil are investigated through comparative simulations under two conditions: close to motor stator and without motor stator. The simulation results indicate that the circuit characteristics and efficiency of the power transfer coils will be seriously affected by the motor structure during wireless power transmission.
