Clinical methodology and the principle of diagnostic proportionality: Considerations on a case of monoclonal gammopathy.

In 1976, at the age of 49, on the prescription of a dentist, the patient underwent haematochemical investigations which revealed, for the first time, an electrophoretic monoclonal peak in the gamma region. Since the patient was completely asymptomatic, his doctor did not consider it appropriate to perform further investigations.
