Characterization of physico-chemical properties of soils from different blocks of Mahisagar district of Gujarat, India

During 2023-24, the experiment was conducted to evaluate the physical and chemical characteristics of the soil in the each three different villages from each (Grampanchayat) Balasinor, Lunawada and Khanpur Blocks of the Mahisagar District in Gujarat. Using a khurpi and conventional method, soil samples were taken at depths of 0-15, 15-30 and 30-45 cm from the following Balasinor block (T1) villages: Pilodra (V1), Saroda (V2) and Dev (V3), Lunawada block (T2) villages: Chandsar (V1), Moti Palli (V2) and Rampur (V3) and Khanpur block (T3) villages: Umariya (V1), Mota Khanpur (V2) and Bhevada (V3). The Department of Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry, Naini Agricultural Institute, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj-211 007 (U.P.) is the laboratory where the physical and chemical properties of soil were analysed. After examining the soil's physical characteristics, the study found that, The physical and chemical properties and fertility status of 27 surface soil samples from cultivated fields in the Mahisagar district. The soils had a mean bulk density of 1.32 Mg m-3, a mean particle density of 2.53 Mg m-3, and a porosity of 37.07 to 51.50%. They were high in organic carbon content and non-calcareous, with an alkaline pH. The soils were low in available nitrogen, very high in P2O5 and K2O, but high in available iron, zinc, manganese and copper
