Influence of sulphur enriched compost and plant growth regulators on growth of lemon grass

The field experiment during 2022-23 and 2023-24 was conducted at AICRP on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and Betelvine, Nagarjuna Medicinal Plants Garden, Dr. PDKV, Akola, aimed to assess the impact of sulphur enriched compost, GA3 and Chitosan on lemon grass cultivation. The experiment, organized in a randomized block design with seven treatments replicated thrice. Six cuttings were performed during the trial to evaluate the growth of lemon grass. Treatments included 100% RDF (Control), and the combination of 25% and 50% Recommended dose of Nitrogen (RDN) through sulphur enriched compost with 75% or 50% RDN with the remaining Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) supplied through inorganic fertilizers alone and coupled with the spraying of 100 ppm GA3 and Chitosan at 90 days after planting and subsequently every 30 days after each cutting. Among the treatments the application of 25% RDN through sulphur enriched compost coupled with spraying of spraying of 100 ppm GA3 at 90 DAP and 30 DAC resulted in the tallest plants, high number of tillers and high number of leaves in lemon grass. The findings underscore the importance of a well-balanced combination of Sulphur enriched compost and plant growth regulators in optimizing lemon grass cultivation, offering insights that can contribute to improved agricultural practices.
