Artistic reconstruction of images and videos using multiple elements based on optimization algorithms

This paper aims at using Chinese characters as pixels to construct images and videos, and to make Chinese characters, as a carrier of Chinese traditional culture, well-known to people all over the world through the intercommunication of art. The content of using Chinese characters to reconstruct images includes the following three parts: First, we use dominos to reconstruct Chinese people’s images based on optimization algorithms, and perform preprocessing before reconstructing to improve the universality of the method. Second, we reconstruct images using modern Chinese characters from three aspects: characters of different gray levels, white characters on a black background and colored characters. Further we create a character library that can reconstruct the images based on any input Chinese characters. Third, we use dominos and modern Chinese characters to reconstruct a small segment of the video. More specifically, it includes using modern Chinese characters and dominos to reconstruct two adjacent and slightly different frames in the ink-and-wash style animation “Dragon Gate” produced by CUC. These results based on the combination of art and technology will contribute to the exchange of Chinese and foreign cultures.
