Subsidence Detection of Asphalt Pavement Based on Mobile Laser Scanning System

Accurate identification of asphalt pavement subsidence is a crucial aspect of road management. This article introduces an XR-3-D mobile laser scanning system, comprising a global navigation satellite system (GNSS)/inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a laser scanner. We propose a method to extract road subsidence data by utilizing high-precision laser point cloud data and position and orientation system (POS) data from the XR-3-D laser road detection system. The methodology involves converting POS data into a local coordinate system and synchronizing it with point cloud data based on timestamps. By projecting the point cloud data onto a 3-D reference plane, precise measurements of local elevation differences are achieved. This process identifies and quantifies road subsidence by calculating the vertical distance of each point from the reference plane. The integration of POS data and point cloud data ensures accurate spatial positioning, providing a reliable means for evaluating pavement conditions and detecting subsidence. The proposed method demonstrates significant potential in enhancing road maintenance and management through intuitive subsidence localization.
