Prediction of heat transfer performance for marine condenser: a comparative analysis of different correlations
The condenser is a critical component in steam-powered ships and power stations, with its performance closely related to cooling water flow rate and temperature. Several empirical correlations have been developed for power plant condensers in engineering calculation. However, the applicability of these correlations to marine condensers, which feature different structures and variable operating conditions, requires further investigation. This paper calculates the heat transfer coefficient and required cooling water flow rate of a certain type of marine condenser using the M-V correlation, HEI correlation, Berman correlation, and the parted calculation method. The results indicate significant differences in the predicted condenser performance by different empirical correlations, providing valuable reference for the design and operation of marine condensers.
