Effect Of Hombd Therapy By Improvement Of A Microcirculation On Osteoarthritis Patients

PURPOSE: We hypothesized that improvement of microcirculation has an effect on cartilage regeneration or repair. We are prescribing a conservative therapy (HOMBD therapy) by improvement of microcirculation for intractable osteoarthritis of the knee. HOMBD therapy consists of Hormesis (local therapy with low-dose radon radiation and terahertz radiation), Oxygen (high pressure oxygen capsule), Mitochondria power (intake of functional water with amino), Body therapy (include footwear), and Diet (dietary intervention according to eight constitution). METHODS: To evaluate the effect of HOMBD therapy, among the cases of intractable osteoarthritis of the knee were treated from 2015 to 2018, the patients who followed up for >3 months were retrospectively reviewed. Articular cartilage repair was estimated with MRI T2 mapping, visual analog scale pain score (VAS), and functional movement in the trunk during gait using 3D acceleration sensor or foot pressure distribution. RESULTS: A total of 78 knees (60 patients; 8 males, 65.0 ± 14.40 years, 52 females, 72.1 ± 9.39 years) were studied. Articular cartilage repair was observed in 48 patients (80%) by the assessment using MRI T2 Mapping. The improvement of VAS was observed of all patients (before HOMBD treatment 85.6 ± 19.2 mm, after treatment 25.4 ± 21.8 mm, t = 14.4, p < .01). The movement during gait using 3D acceleration sensor was dynamic movement after treatment (before HOMBD treatment; 1.54 ± 0.199 G in craniocaudal axis & 1.36 < ± 0.230 G in anteroposterior axis < after HOMBD treatment; 1.98 ± 0.477 G in craniocaudal axis & 1.60 ± 0.313 G in anteroposterior axis, F = 12.47 & 3.72, adjust p = 0.0386 & 0.1495, ES pη2 = 0.806 & 0.553). Three patients weren't satisfied with the HOMBD treatment effect and hoped for replacement arthroplasty. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the findings of our study, HOMBD therapy with hormesis and others was associated with significant improvement in terms of form, pain and function. HOMBD therapy demonstrated potential benefit as easy and new conservative therapy of intractable osteoarthritis of the knee.

Three patients weren't satisfied with the HOMBD treatment effect and hoped for replacement arthroplasty.
