Comparative Study On The Predictive Efficacy Of Various Morphological Indicators For Hyperuricemia In Central Obese Children And Adolescents
INTRODUCTION: Central obesity is commonly assessed using indicators such as WHtR (waist-to-height ratio)and CI (conicity index).HUA (hyperuricemia) is a common complication of obesity.Currently, there is a lack of research on the association between WHtR ,CI and HUA in centrally obese children and adolescents. PURPOSE: This study aims to assess the correlation between BMI, WHtR ,CI and HUA in centrally obese children and adolescents. METHODS: 462 obese children and adolescents (mean ± SD, age = 13.35 ± 2.53, 45.2% female, BMI = 31.08 ± 5.60 kg/m2, WHtR = 0.60 ± 0.07) volunteered to participate in this study.Central obesity is defined as WHtR ≥0.46. This study used the criteria to choose participants with central obesity. HUA is defined as UA ≥ 420 μmol/L for males and UA ≥ 360 μmol/L for females. Characteristic description of subjects - Variables Total Male(253) Female(209) P value Age(year) 13.35 ± 2.53 12.94 ± 2.55 13.84 ± 2.42 0.546 BMI(kg/m2) 31.08 ± 5.60 31.96 ± 5.72 30.01 ± 5.27 <0.01 WHtR 0.60 ± 0.07 0.62 ± 0.06 0.57 ± 0.07 <0.01 CI 1.28 ± 0.09 1.31 ± 0.06 1.24 ± 0.08 <0.01 HUA 316 165 151 0.106 Data was expressed as mean ± SD. RESULTS: The results of simple correlation analysis, stratified by gender, show that the BMI, WHtR and CI of males are all higher than females (P < 0.01 for all comparison). When using ROC to predict HUA with different indicators , AUC (area under the curve ) for BMI is the highest, measuring 0.65 (95% CI: 0.58-0.72, p < 0.01), with a cutoff value of 28.06. Following BMI, WHtR has the next highest AUC, at 0.64 (95% CI: 0.57-0.71, p < 0.01), with a cutoff value of 0.59. The AUC for CI is the smallest, measuring 0.60 (95% CI: 0.53-0.67, p < 0.01), with a cutoff value of 1.30.The gender differences have a minor impact on the variations in predictive effectiveness among different obesity indicators for HUA. Gender has little impact on obesity indicators' predictive effectiveness for HUA. CONCLUSION: In this study, BMI demonstrated the most effective predictive performance for HUA. The cutoff values for BMI are relatively stable, and gender differences are minimal when predicting the risk of abnormal HUA. Following BMI, WHtR performs next, and CI performs last. All three predictive indicators demonstrate the capability to predict HUA. This work was supported by Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities (22120230370)
