O CAVALO BRETÃO: TRADIÇÃO E INOVAÇÃO NAS ATIVIDADES AGRÍCOLAS
This article aimed to research and analyze the origin of the horse in agriculture as well as the domestication process, the role it plays in agribusiness, characteristics of the Breton horse and its contribution throughout history to the present in agricultural modernization. Of French origin, the Breton horse is recognized as a draft horse with a docile temperament and easy handling. Widely used by small and medium-sized farmers due to its strength and simple creation. The inclusion of the horse in human achievements brought great advances in the economic and social sector and still contributes to activities related to both sports and work in agribusiness. The harnessing service performed by the breed is still maintained in agricultural regions that require animal traction to carry out their functions. With its high capacity and resistance, the well-trained and fed Breton is capable of carrying four times its own weight. Even in the face of modernization and implements of agricultural machinery, Breton still plays a relevant role for family farming, mountainous and forestry regions.
