The role of nutrition in healthy aging
Nutrition plays an essential role in healthy aging, directly influencing the prevention of chronic diseases and the preservation of physical and mental health in the elderly. Recent studies indicate that diets rich in antioxidants, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and micronutrients are essential to mitigate the effects of aging, preventing cognitive decline, systemic inflammation and cardiovascular diseases. This paper reviews the main scientific evidence on how adequate nutrition can prolong life with quality, favoring more active and healthy aging.
