Prevalence and Risk Factors of Varicose Veins in the Yaroslavl Region

There are many risk factors of varicose veins. It is important to understand the role of each factor in individual and population risks, as well as strength of correlation with disease. Objective. To assess the prevalence and risk factors of varicose veins in one region of Russia. Material and methods. We analyzed the incidence of varicose veins in the Yaroslavl region for the period 2011—2021 considering statistical reports of budgetary and private hospitals. Risk factors of varicose veins were analyzed in 13.098 patients who underwent examination in private phlebology clinic. Results. The most significant risk of varicose veins were identified. We assessed the role of 10 manageable, 10 partially manageable and 8 unmanageable risk factors. Conclusion. Varicose veins is a multifactorial disease triggered by two or more risk factors. The risk of this disease is 4.5 times higher in women after childbirth. After exclusion of this factor, male gender is also risk factor. Comorbidity is not a risk of varicose veins in population.
