VICONYMS OF BELARUS AND FRANCE, REFLECTING THE PHYSICAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES OF THE AREAS

The article reflects the results of a comparative study of viconyms that reflect the physical and geographical features of the area. The main thematic groups have been identified, including the names of this variety in the subsystems of intravillage names in Belarus and France: “Landscape elements”, “Flora”, “Functional specialization”, “Quality of the object and area”, as well as the quantitative relationships of these groups. Motivating units common to the two national onomastic subsystems are identified. The eponymous and nationally-specific subgroups of names, nominative features characteristic of the analyzed category of names have been established. It has been determined that for this type of viconyms they are characterized as typologically similar (similar name groups, partial coincidence of the structure of the periphery of the semantic field, a certain number of common motivating words used in two subsystems to form names), as well as nationally specific features (different nominative priorities and discrepancies in the structuring of space in viconymy, a significant quantitative discrepancy in the ratio of structural components of the semantic field, the presence of thematic varieties of viconyms characteristic of only one of the subsystems).
