Profile of Hospitals Accredited By The Seal of The National Accreditation Organization (ONA)

Objective: The study aimed to analyze hospitals accredited by the quality seal of the National Accreditation Organization in Brazil (ONA). Theoretical Framework: With technological advances and the increasingly competitive market, hospitals have been seeking greater quality in service provision. As a result, the use of accreditation has been valued in hospital management, showing that a hospital with accreditation is promoting a quality and trustworthy service. Method: The methodology adopted for this research comprises a documentary study, with descriptive and quantitative analysis. Statistical data was collected on the official ONA website, identifying accredited hospitals between December 2019 and January 2020. Results and Discussion: The results demonstrated a total number of 337 accredited hospitals in the country, of which only 37 of these are located in the northeast region, a low number compared to the south and southeast regions. Regarding the criteria of private and public units, it was found that 81% of accredited hospitals in Brazil are private. And regarding the level of accreditation, it is noteworthy that 52% of accredited hospitals obtained certification for excellence. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research can be applied in the field of quality management, which seeks to achieve greater patient satisfaction, safer diagnosis and continuous improvement in various areas of the hospital institution. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature on quality programs and its value is evidenced by identifying hospitals with an accreditation seal, an increasingly important aspect in hospital routine, in the constant search for improvement and reliability of services provided to the population.
