Building a Homeostatic Relationship between Daughter-in-Law and Mother-in-Law
The relationship between mothers-in-law is an integral part of the complex dynamics within a family.A harmonious interaction between in-laws has the potential to contribute positively to the overall well-being of the family. This research explores the perspectives of daughters-in-law who live under the same roof as their mothers-in-law in building a homeostatic or stable interaction. The research method utilizes a qualitative approach, specifically the phenomenological research design. The research subjects consist of six daughters-in-law who live with their mothers-in-law.The result shows that the process of adjustment is not only experienced by the daughters-in-law but also by the mothers-in-law.Various factors contribute to conflicts, such as differences in principles and jealousy on the mother-in-law's part. The antithesis obtained to achieve homeostatic or stability in their relationship includes building a good relationship even before marriage, engaging in activities together, the involvement of the mother-in-law, the sensitivity of the daughters-in-law, and the willingness to compromise.
