The dynamics of mortality from malignant neoplasms of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts in the Sverdlovsk region over a fifteen-year period.

In the structure of mortality from malignant neoplasms, the localization of tumors of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts occupies the 4th – 5th place. Every year, more than 1 million 250 thousand people die from malignant neoplasms of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts in the world, and more than 10 thousand people die in the Russian Federation. The purpose of the study is to study the dynamics of mortality from malignant neoplasms tumors of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts in the Sverdlovsk region the past fifteen years. Materials and methods. The article presents the results of a population-based study over fifteen years of follow-up. The dynamics of mortality rates due to primary malignant neoplasms of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts in the Sverdlovsk region has been studied. The results of a comparative analysis of mortality rates from malignant tumors of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts between similar regional, average district and average Russian indicators are presented. The study analyzes information copied from information statistical collections of the Ministry of Health of the Sverdlovsk Region and the Federal State Statistics Service. The dynamics of mortality rates due to primary malignant neoplasms of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts by constructing dynamic series and calculating special indicators: absolute increase/decrease, growth/decrease rate, growth/decrease indicator, visibility indicator. The following research methods were used: statistical and analytical. Results. In the Sverdlovsk region, over the past fifteen years, the standardized mortality rate due to primary malignant neoplasms of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts was the highest in 2021 (4,63 per 100 000 population), the lowest in 2012 (3,93 per 100 000 population). In general, the dynamics of the mortality rate from this localization of malignant tumors in the region was characterized by an increase of 12,7% over the past fifteen years. In the sexual structure of mortality from malignant neoplasms of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts in the Sverdlovsk region, the male sex prevailed, the average long-term proportion of which was 52,3%. It was found that the standardized mortality rate due to primary malignant neoplasms of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts in the Sverdlovsk region annually exceeded the Russian average. The maximum excess of this indicator was registered in 2011, when it reached 30%. In 2021, the regional standardized mortality rate from malignant tumors of this localization was also 19% higher than in the Russian Federation as a whole. Conclusions. A result of fifteen years of monitoring of standardized mortality rates due to primary malignant tumors of the liver and intrahepatic bile ducts, the negative dynamics of changes in this indicator in the studied region and its annual excess of the average Russian values were established.
