Concept Design and Hydrodynamic Analysis of a Small Dry Submersible
The United States Navy operates a variety of small submersibles for the deployment of Naval Special Warfare Group (NSWG) teams. However, current delivery vehicles either cannot operate off a submarine, or are flooded, exposing their occupants to the open ocean. The team aimed to bridge this gap by designing a small, dry, submersible that can be operated from the dry deck shelter of a US Navy submarine. To achieve this, the team developed a conceptual design, and performed a hydrodynamical analysis using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This design greatly increases the capability of the Navy and NSWG teams, increasing the safety and effectiveness of both the user and launch platform.
