Practical Gain Tuning Using Bayesian Optimization with Input Constraints for Low-Thrust Satellite Rendezvous*

This paper addresses nonlinear controllers for satellite rendezvous with low thrust, based on the Lyapunov function and relative orbit elements as relative state variables. From the practical point of view, gain tuning of the obtained nonlinear controllers is proposed via Bayesian optimization considering the constraints of control inputs. The proposed controllers’ effectiveness and gain tuning strategies were demonstrated through numerical simulations.

Abstract

This paper addresses nonlinear controllers for satellite rendezvous with low thrust, based on the Lyapunov function and relative orbit elements as relative state variables. From the practical point of view, gain tuning of the obtained nonlinear controllers is proposed via Bayesian optimization considering the constraints of control inputs. The proposed controllers’ effectiveness and gain tuning strategies were demonstrated through numerical simulations.
