HYPOPLASTIC VERTEBRAL ARTERY: A RISK FACTOR FOR STROKE? FREQUENCY AND TERRITORIAL IMPACT
Currently vertebral artery hypoplasia is not thought to be a separate risk factor for stroke. There is growing evidence that vertebral artery hypoplasia may be involved in posterior circulation ischemia episodes, particularly in the presence of additional risk factors(1). However, the relationship between VAH and ischemic stroke remains unknown. Hence this study aims to determine association between ischemic stroke syndrome and a hypoplastic vertebral artery in patients diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke using available data.
