EVALUATION OF NATIONAL PROGRAM FOR PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF CANCER, DIABETES, CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE AND STROKE IN BHOPAL DISTRICT.

Introduction: The programme was integrated with National Health Mission in 2013-14, with the focus of enabling opportunistic screening for prevalent non communicable illnesses at the district and community level via NCD clinics. The Government of Madhya Pradesh has started population-based screening in 2017. During the training, ANMs and ASHAs will be trained to conduct screenings. Objectives: To assess the knowledge and practices of MO, CHO, ANM and ASHA, availability of logistics and training and also assess the status of population based and opportunistic screening. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 31 health facilities of Bhopal by multi-stage random sampling for 12 months from January 2022 to December 2022. A predesigned, pretested questionnaire containing knowledge and practices on NPCDCS were administered to 67 Health functionaries (MO, CHO, ANM and ASHA) in 31 facilities. Assessment of Population based and opportunistic screening was done on the basis of physical and digital records (secondary data). Checklists were used to assess availability of program related logistics. 6 FGDs of beneciaries were conducted. Results: 10(76.9 %) out of 13 MOs were trained. 38.5 % of MOs and 17.7% of ANMs were fully aware regarding treatment protocol for diabetes. The correlation between knowledge and practice is moderate in case of CHOs and poor in case of ANMs and ASHAs. By ANOVA test, Knowledge score and practice score of medical ofcers, CHO, ANM the p value is 0.000167 & 0.00037. In FGD, 53% of beneciaries responded that ASHA visited their house for NCD survey. Conclusion: Monitoring and supervision in the program were very poor at all levels. There was lack of utilization of services in the program. Refreshment training should be provided.
