ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF CARBON DIOXIDE BURIAL IN SUBMAFROST AQUIFERS

In this paper, the equilibrium conditions of carbon dioxide hydrate formation in porous media with various salinities were studied using the method of differential thermal analysis. The obtained experimental results were compared with the thermal profile of geological exploration area No. 2 to determine the boundaries of the carbon dioxide hydrate stability zone in the subpermafrost aquifers of the Vilyui syneclise. It has been established that in the stability zone, depending on reservoir conditions, a hydrate can be formed from ice/water and gaseous/liquid carbon dioxide. When carbon dioxide is injected into frozen rocks, the melting temperature of ice decreases with an increase of gas pressure, which leads to permafrost degradation. Therefore, the burial of carbon dioxide in subpermafrost aquifers must be carried out at great depths.
