Utilization of Stripped Sour Water as Feed to DM Plant

The Clean Sour Water generated in sour water treatment Unit is intended to be routed to the Demineralized Water system as per the original design. However, due to high conductivity levels in the stripped clean sour water (greater than 0.2 μS/cm), it is not diverted to Demineralized Water storage. Instead, Clean Sour Water approximately 90m3/h is diverted to the Wastewater Treatment Plant for further treatment which resulting in loss of valuable water resource which could be re-used if CSW specifications are achieved as per design. The proposed modifications will aim to reduce the conductivity levels of the CSW to meet the original design specifications, which will allow the water to be routed to the Demineralized Water system and affect in water consumption reduction along to cost optimization of water cost. The scope of project is summarized to pre-treat stripped CSW via cooling exchanger and activated carbon filter prior to routing it as feed of Demineralization Package. The proposed plan involves the following steps: Firstly a Cooling Water Heat Exchanger is needed to reduce CSW operating temperature to protect resins of existing Demineralized Beds. Then Cooling medium will be Cooling Water which will be provided from existing Cooling Water system Secondly, Activated Carbon Filter Vessel internals will be replaced which is located downstream of Cooling Water Heat Exchanger for Removal of any trace Hydrocarbon and Oil/Grease content. Basket Filter shall be installed at the downstream of filter vessel to prevent escape of activated carbon into the CSW feed to Demineralized beds. With this Project, the entire stripped CSW flow of ~90m3/hr can be diverted as feed to DM unit, this will save an equivalent quantity of Desalinated water use estimated at ~ 2.2 MMUSD annually and avoid wastage of this stripped clean sour water which was being injected earlier.

Abstract

The Clean Sour Water generated in sour water treatment Unit is intended to be routed to the Demineralized Water system as per the original design. However, due to high conductivity levels in the stripped clean sour water (greater than 0.2 μS/cm), it is not diverted to Demineralized Water storage.
