Enhancing Road Safety Through Driver Fatigue Monitoring Systems: An HSE Perspective

Motor vehicle incidents is one of the most concerning phenomena in the world and in oil and gas industry especially in GCC. Introduction of new technology to influence driver behavior and enforcement of safety requirements has become an extreme requirement to improve road safety performance by reducing motor vehicle incidents. This paper highlights the urgency of introducing a different way to manage the risks associated with driving due to the significant impact MVI causes to the company, employees, families and stakeholders. Hence, NESR explored different options from a technology and AI point of view to manage driving risks. Artificial intelligence is one of the most successful inventions in this era. Utilizing AI in oil and gas industry is very promising across different processes to improve the way of doing things, improving efficiency, reducing time wasted and providing accurate data analysis. NESR recognized the need to inject AI within its operations to manage HSE risk hence; decided to utilize more than 120 AI camera for driver behavior monitoring and intervention to reduce motor vehicle accident.
