Are Shade-Tolerant Plants Also Drought-Tolerant

This study examines the relationship between drought and shade tolerance in herbaceous plants, which is traditionally assumed to be mutually exclusive due to divergent resource allocation strategies. By collecting and analyzing relevant biochemical and morphological traits on a variety of plants native to grasslands in south eastern Ontario, a quantitative approach to analyzing the relationship between these two stress responses can be employed. This research aims to enhance our characterization of the interplay and relationship of drought and shade tolerance in relation to these plant species.
