An Exploratory Study on Equitable Cross-Cultural Fashion: Focusing on De-Westcentrism Cultural Discourse and Asian Ethnic Fashion
This study aims to examine the development of Asian ethnic fashion in the context of the globalization of cross-cultural phenomena and to explore the implications and future directions of equitable cross-cultural fashion in the 21st century by analyzing de-Westcentric cultural discourse. Thus, literature reviews and content analysis were conducted on fashion design cases cited as positive collaborations between Asian traditional culture and global fashion brands through internet searches. The findings are as follows: First, equitable cross-cultural fashion is a fashion culture and industry that embraces the concept of inclusive fashion, breaking away from binary perspectives and metaphors such as West and East, dominance, and subjugation. Second, a digital consumer marketplace propels equitable cross-cultural fashion, emphasizing the importance of cultural inclusion in fashion communication and storytelling. Third, equitable cross-cultural fashion is a dynamic value that seeks cultural variability within the 21st-century sustainable paradigm. This study is significant as a foundational examination to reappraise cultural diversity and recognize the respect for and importance of each culture.
