A Novel Systematic Topology Derivation Method for Single-Inductor Three-Port DC–DC Converters from Separate Components

Since the attractive performance of single-inductor three-port dc–dc converters (SI-TPC), numerous methods have been developed to derive SI-TPC topologies to meet various application requirements. However, these methods are almost limited by pregiven topologies or specific cells, resulting in the omission of some valuable topologies. To address this limitation, this article proposed a novel method for deriving SI-TPC topologies directly from separate components. The core concept of this method involves assembling separate components into various combinations and then filtering valid topologies from these combinations. This innovative approach allows for deriving topologies without the rigid connections of existing topologies or cells. Consequently, it can discover more comprehensive and diverse topologies compared to previous methods. To implement the proposed method, graph theory is utilized to model combinations of components and working constraints of SI-TPC so that all possible combinations can be enumerated, and the valid combinations can be selected with the aid of computers. The proposed method is applied to derive SI-TPC topologies from several sets of separate components (1L-3P-3S, 1L-3P-4S, 1L-3P-5S, 1L-3P-6S). The derived results not only embrace all SI-TPC topologies reported in the past two decades but also introduce numerous new topologies, leading to more SI-TPC topologies in practical applications.
