Foldable Helmet Design Research for Micro Mobility

Micro mobility, powered by electric energy for first and last mile transportaton, represents a futuristic mode of transport tailored to urban needs. Despite its innovation, helmets designed for micro mobility users have failed to depart from traditional norms. This study aims to explore the requirements for helmets within the context of micro mobility and propose innovative directions. Through preliminary research on micro mobility and its users, an investigation and analysis of currently available foldable helmets revealed insufficient volume reduction capabilities, posing portability issues. Consequntly, a design study was undertaken to address these shortcomings. This research underscores the potential coomercial viability of foldable helmets with significant volume reduction suitable for storage and portability in the context of micro mobility.

Abstract

Micro mobility, powered by electric energy for first and last mile transportaton, represents a futuristic mode of transport tailored to urban needs. Despite its innovation, helmets designed for micro mobility users have failed to depart from traditional norms. This study aims to explore the requirements for helmets within the context of micro mobility and propose innovative directions. Through preliminary research on micro mobility and its users, an investigation and analysis of currently available foldable helmets revealed insufficient volume reduction capabilities, posing portability issues. Consequntly, a design study was undertaken to address these shortcomings.
