EP19.08: Labour induction: are there any differences of cervical parameters related to early and late expulsion of Foley catheter

The type of birth could be influenced not only by the induction itself, but also by the tactics used to manage labour. The purpose of our study was to investigate the difference between different cervical ripening parameters in patients with early and late Foley catheter expulsion groups. Our main focus is on the time to Foley's expulsion, not the labour outcome. The prospective cohort study in Riga Maternity Hospital from 2021-2024 enrolled 150 healthy primiparas with singleton pregnancy and Bishop score ≤6. For IOL combined method –Foley catheter and oral misoprostol was used. Prior to IOL cervical length (CL), posterior cervical angle (PCA), subpubic angle (SPA), head-perineum distance (HPD), and strain elastography index (EI) by GE Versana Premier were evaluated. The differences between two groups (Group 1 – expulsion of Foley catheter less than 6 h; Group 2 – expulsion after 6h) were estimated using Mann-Whitney U test. A total of 146 patients were included in the study. Group 1 – 41(28,1%),Group 2 – 101(71.9%). Table 1 shows the difference of parameters across 2 groups. There is no statistically significant difference between groups for PCA, SPA, HPD and EI. Only CL is the most predictive tool of cervical dilatation profile.
