OC10.08: A novel fetal intracranial measurement contributing to the differential diagnosis of fetal microcephaly

To construct a reference range for two novel measurements of the fetal head and to assess the value of diagnosing fetal microcephaly with these two measurements. The foramen magnum-to-cranium distance (FCD), measured between the foramen magnum and the upper inner cranial border along the posterior wall of the brainstem; the thickness of the frontal lobe (TFL), the shortest distance between the upper outer border of the corpus callosum and the upper inner cranial border paralleling to FCD. The normal reference ranges for FCD and TFL were developed by measuring 285 healthy fetuses between 21 and 38 gestational weeks. The two references were applied to 2 case groups. Group 1 included 26 fetuses with isolated microcephaly (HC< -2SD) and without other malformations and microcephaly family history. Group 2 included 15 fetuses with microcephaly malformation. Abstract
