EP05.06: Choroid plexus to callosal distance in fetuses with partial agenesis or hypoplasia of the corpus callosum

To evaluate the distance between the choroid plexus (CP) of the third ventricle and the distal part of the corpus callosum (CC) as a new ultrasound parameter for the diagnosis of partial agenesis (pACC) or hypoplasia of the CC (hCC). Prospective study including fetuses with normal CC and those with pACC or hCC. The distance between the most prominent part of the CP of the third ventricle and the distal part of the CC was in fetuses with normal and in those with pACC or hCC measured by two independent examinators blinded to the final diagnosis. Reference standard was postnatal imaging. Uni- and multivariate analyses were used to analyse the data. 70 fetuses with normal and 15 with pACC or hCC were included in the analysis. There was no difference in the gestational age at scan between the two groups (p = 0.919). The distance between the CP of the third ventricle and the distal part of the CC was significantly lower in cases with pACC or hCC (9.92 ± 0,23 vs 1.21 ± 0.10; p < 0.001). In all normal cases, the distal part of the CC exceed the CP of the third ventricle. Cases of normal CC the CP of the third ventricles exceeded the distal part of the CC. At multivariate logistic regression analysis, the distance between the CP of the third ventricle and the distal part of the CC was independently associated with pACC or hCC (OR: 1.23, 95% CI 1.11-1,67). A short distance between the CP of the third ventricle and the distal part of the CC is an independent predictor of pACC or hCC. Abstract
