EP01.37: Feasibility and accuracy of a second trimester ultrasound scan using a real‐time image streaming and remote control of ultrasound system
SonosyncTM (@Samsung) is an innovative system that allows a real-time image streaming, discussion and a complete remote control of ultrasound system. The aim of our study is to evaluate the feasibility of a second trimester ultrasound scan performed by a skilled operator with sonosyncTM and the accuracy of this technique compared with a conventional was of scanning. 52 low risk patients were enrolled in our study for a second trimester ultrasound scan after a written consent. All the examinations were performed by a single operator with 20 years of experience in prenatal ultrasound and five residents in obstetrics and gynecology with no previous experience in prenatal ultrasound. In the first part of the study a complete ultrasound examination, according to the ISUOG guidelines for second trimester scan, was performed using a remote connection with sonosyncTM. Fetal biometry, anatomical landmarks, amount of fluid and position of placenta were evaluated. Time of examination and all images were recorded. In the second part of the study, the same skilled operator returned to the bed of the patient and repeated the exam. For each patient, all measurements were compared using concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) and images were evaluated by a blinded operator using an image quality score. A second trimester complete ultrasound examination was feasible using sonosyncTM in all cases. Fetal measurements were compared between both techniques and a good agreement was found (CCC = 0.99 for BPD, HC and LF; CCC = 0.97 per AC). Time for a complete US examination was 40 min± 8 using sonosyncTM and 21 min± 6 the traditional way; a significant higher image quality score was obtained with the traditional way (P = 0.002). It is feasible and accurate to perform a complete second trimester scan using a real-time screening and remote connection of ultrasound system. This should open a new frontier in fetal medicine for referral scan.
