OP11.07: Frequency of intravasation phenomenon during hysterosalpingo‐foam‐sonography: a multicentre prospective study

To assess the frequency of contrast-venous intravasation during hysterosalpingo-foam-sonography (HyFoSy). Prospective observational multicentre study performed in nine European university hospitals (eight in Spain and one in Italy), comprising a series of non-consecutive women who underwent HyFoSy for tubal patency assessment in the context of infertility between May 2016 and December 2022. All examinations were performed using the same scanning protocol and ultrasound evaluation were done by expert examiners. The observation of intravasation of contrast in the venous territory of the uterus was recorded as “yes” or “no”. During study period, 1,946 women were recruited. Patients’ mean age was 34 years old, ranging from 22 years to 43 years. Intravasation was observed in 10 cases (0.5%, 95% CI: 0.3%-0.9%). The frequency of intravasation was similar in seven centres, ranging from 0% to 0.7%. In two centres the frequency observed was higher, 2.6% and 3.0%, respectively. No significant patient reaction or complication was observed in those 10 women with intravasation. Venous intravasation is uncommon during HyFoSy. The clinical implications of this phenomenon still need to be elucidated.
