World Health Assembly resolution: A global path forward in transplantation
In May, the World Health Assembly (WHA) adopted resolutions (the Resolution) to increase the availability and ethical access to transplantation and provide oversight of the transplantation of human cells, tissues, and organs.1 “This has been a very important effort for a number of reasons,” says Beatriz Dominguez-Gil Gonzalez, MD, PhD, General Director of the National Transplant Organization in Spain and author of the Resolution. The new Resolution replaces the one adopted by the WHA in 2010 and is significant, says Dr Gonzalez, because transplantation, in recent years, has been losing traction in the global agenda.
