ESTUDO DE MANIFESTAÇÕES PATOLÓGICAS EM MONUMENTOS PÚBLICOS DE ARACAJU: O PAPEL DA ENGENHARIA CIVIL NA PRESERVAÇÃO DA HISTÓRIA E CULTURA

Aracaju’s monuments current outlook exposes the lack of maintenance e basic care for these and also the need for intervention by engineers in these structures. Sergipe’s capital, since its foundation, was molded by its monuments, whether they are public buildings, important people’s houses or statues. Based on this, this paper aims to clarify which constructive pathologies are present in the city’s monuments e what are their consequences for these structures e to the city’s culture, in order to show the corrective maintenance procedures for cases where structures were affected by corrosion, cracks and mold and suffered depredation actions caused by men. For this, monuments scattered around the capital of Sergipe were studied in order to identify current conditions and, after depth study of them, it was possible to determine what type of procedure to adopt for each type of pathology. Based on made visits "in loco", it was possible to assign a degree of damage of each monument and thereby create a preventive maintenance methodology for these, after corrective maintenance, avoiding high repair costs after years of depredation, given that maintenance costs increase exponentially as a function of time. In addition to reducing costs for the city, the constant monitoring of Aracaju’s monuments allows them to be never lost over time, thus preserving the historical and cultural identity of Aracaju’s and Sergipe’s society as a whole, since the civil engineer must be in harmony with everything that surrounds him in society.
