Perioperative Outcomes of Total Hip Arthroplasty in Trisomy 21 Patients in Comparison With a Control Population: Analysis From a Large National Sample of 367,894 Patients
Results from a total hip arthroplasty continue to positively transform the lives of patients with end-stage hip arthritis from varying etiologies. In the special cohort of Down's syndrome, a thorough discussion is essential with reference to the relatively higher morbidity and mortality in this group of patients. Documented conversations between patients and their families and healthcare providers should consist of detailed deliberations on the pros and cons of surgery and its potential impacts.
