Building Resilient Systems Through Observability
In the realm of system design and engineering, resilience and observability are pivotal concepts that define the robustness and reliability of modern technological infrastructures. This survey paper delves into the intricate relationship between observability and system resilience, emphasizing how enhanced visibility into system operations can significantly bolster a system's ability to withstand and recover from operational disruptions.Through a comprehensive literature review, this paper explores the theoretical underpinnings of system resilience and the fundamental principles of observability, including their practical applications via various observability tools such as logs, metrics, and traces.Furthermore, it presents a series of case studies to illustrate the real-world implementation of observability practices and their impact on system resilience. The survey highlights both the current challenges in achieving effective observability and the future directions in which this field is evolving.By providing a detailed examination of how observability enhances system resilience, this paper contributes to the ongoing discourse in systems engineering and offers insights for both researchers and practitioners aiming to optimize system performance and robustness.
