Advent of mentha intercropping with wheat in alluvial tract of Uttar Pradesh

The field study was laid out during rabi season of 2016-17 at Soil Conservation and Water Management Farm, C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur. The experimental soil was sandy loam, having low nutrients status. The nine treatments were tested which are listed in Table 1 & 2. The wheat cultivar Unnat Halna and Mentha variety Shivalick were planted. The wheat and mentha both crops were fertilized with 120 kg N + 60 kg P2O5 + 60 kg K2O/ha. The wheat crop was sown with 80 kg seed/ha, while mentha suckers @ 400 kg/ha planted. The cutting in mentha was done. The first cutting was done after 135 DAP and second cutting made at 180 DAP. Wheat paired + mentha (Direct sowing) with row ratio of 2:3 was found superior among the all tested treatments. This intercropping system gave whet yield @ 21.30 q/ha, and mentha oil @ 158.50 lit/ha. The important growth parameters, yield traits were commensurable to the yield of both crops.
