COMPARAÇÃO DO PERFIL E DA MEDIDA DE INDEPENDÊNCIA FUNCIONAL DOS PACIENTES INTERNADOS EM UTIS POR COVID-19 E POR OUTRAS CAUSAS
Objective: to compare 229 patients admitted to ICUs with COVID-19 and for other reasons, comparing the Functional Independence Measure-FIM after 3 months of discharge. Methodology: it is a cross-sectional study, with convenience sampling and a quantitative approach. 197 patients from the Adult-ICU and 32 from the ICU-COVID participated, at different times. Results: there were more older patients in the COVID-19 group than in the other (medians = 54.5 and 40 years; p = 0.000146). No difference was observed between genders, and patients with COVID-19 exhibited more comorbidities. There was no difference between ICU and mechanical ventilation days, but the “p” values were close to significant. Patients with COVID-19 had a median time of 9 days in the ICU and 7 days on MV, and those hospitalized for other causes, 6 days in the ICU and 1.9 days on MV. Genders were equally distributed, but hypertensive and diabetic patients were more numerous in the group with COVID-19 (p < 0.0001). There was no evidence of difference in functional capacity between the groups, with locomotion, sphincter control and communication being the most affected. Comparison of the FIM percentages after 3 months of discharge showed no differences, however the average values indicated complete rehabilitation for both groups. Conclusion: some results were corroborated by the literature, but should be interpreted with caution due to the low number of patients admitted to ICUs due to COVID-19 and the absence of FIM at the beginning of hospitalization and after discharge.
