The main purpose of this article is to address the concept of racism, its species according to the literature, and its impacts on the black population in Brazil and in the world. It is necessary to highlight that racism and its derivations increase inequalities, and overcoming this situation means repairing centuries of discrimination, correcting injustices committed against the black population since the beginning. The results of this research demonstrate that to combat racism, economic and social measures are not enough, because racial justice is not only about social justice. Social justice does not guarantee racial justice. The whole society and institutions need to review the treatment given to the black population, and the strengthening of movements in favor of this population is indispensable to achieve social justice.
