FELIN’FORMA: DESMITIFICANDO A TOXOPLASMOSE.
Toxoplasmosis is a pathology caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, a member of the Sarcocystidae family. Its main transmission occurs through the ingestion of cysts of this protozoan, often found in raw or undercooked meats. However, a misconception fueled by popular perception suggests that direct contact with domestic cats can trigger infection with this disease, a fallacy lacking evidence, as transmission through cats only occurs via ingestion of food contaminated with their feces. This misconception has led many pregnant women to consider donating or abandoning their cats out of fear of acquiring toxoplasmosis, which is associated with complications such as miscarriages and fetal malformations. In this context, the "Felin'forma" project has stood out by promoting public awareness on this issue, essentialy through social media, pointing to correct misconceptions and guide on appropriate preventive behavior.
