Digital Twin for the Evaluation of Data-Driven-Based Dynamic Security Assessment of Noninterconnected Islands: Introducing digital twin on Rhodes Island
There is a global trend to enhance the integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) in noninterconnected island power systems. Thus, islands are regarded as large-scale testbeds for future interconnected power systems dominated by RESs. Operating with high RES penetration can lead to significant frequency transients due to the limited physical inertia in such systems. Predefined limits for renewable penetration and primary reserves are therefore often set to ensure dynamic security. However, this conventional approach may fall short in ensuring dynamic security or may prove to be overly conservative under certain conditions.
