O MECANISMO DA HIPERGLICEMIA DURANTE A INFECÇÃO DE COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic was one of the greatest public health challenges in the world, which began in December 2019. This disease is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), in which its The spread has had a significant impact on people's lives, both in terms of health and lifestyle. Furthermore, this infection has been intertwined with the diabetes mellitus (DM) pandemic, a chronic condition characterized as a set of metabolic disorders that have in common hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion and/or action. In view of the above, the present work investigated what scientific production there is that explains the mechanism of hyperglycemia during Covid-19 infection. The study is a systematic review, where a search was carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), PubMed and Uptodate databases for studies published between 2017 and 2022. The articles used to develop the work showed that the COVID-19 virus, in addition to predisposing infected patients to hyperglycemia, the hyperglycemic state itself can lead to a worse outcome of the disease. Thus, the pathophysiological relationship between Covid-19 and type 2 diabetes mellitus is concluded.
