New concept of intervention on the health of the stomatognathic system in patients with epidermolysis bullosa in combination with the topical application of Curefini® in the oral cavity

BACKGROUND: Food entering the oral cavity in children with epidermolysis bullosa (EB) represents a complication from birth and throughout their life because the mucous membranes of the digestive system are affected, starting with the oral cavity. Blisters on the oral mucosa, lips, palate, tongue, floor of the mouth and pain prevent breastfeeding, produce dysphagia, atypical swallowing, mouth breathing, undetectable aspirations and affect the growth and development of the stomatognathic system with the course of age. Alterations in the bone and muscle structures of the face that are not genetically affected by EB and are deformed with aging especially in RDEB. Diagnosis and clinical therapy for the Health of the Stomatognathic System in early childhood, avoid mouth breathing and atypical swallowing and aims to improve the growth of the affected maxillae especially in EBDR, and allow patients to chew and swallow correctly and have nasal breathing independent of age of onset in childhood and prevent or improve microstomia.METHODS: Topical application of Curefini® natural ointment in the oral cavity with myofunctional treatment by specialized speech therapy and dental pediatrics contributes to prevent atypical swallowing, mouth breathing, improve microstomia and ameliorate ankyloglossia. The sooner treatment started, the better the results will be according to international bibliography.RESULTS: The following article shows a non-invasive clinical treatment that was never implemented to improve the quality of life of these patients while a genetic cure is found.CONCLUSIONS: The objective of the authors is to disseminate a clinical treatment for the implementation of the care and development of the oral cavity in RDEB.
